Short Form Stop Motion

When I started this studio I knew two things - 1) I wanted to start my own stop-motion animation studio that catered to the classic animation style through modern means, and 2) okay, I think I only knew one thing.

Now, the thing with stop-motion studios is that they take up space. Stop-motion is a very physical medium. You need space for sets, space for making the sets, space for puppets and rigs and making them, and not to mention even more space for all the equipment it takes to film. So one of my first big questions was - can I make a legit studio with a single room, and actually produce high quality projects from such a space?

It’s taken a couple years, but the full answer is resoundingly, YES. By planning through extremely detailed means since launching the studio, I’ve managed to create a functional studio space that allows for professional production with a minimal footprint. One of the big keys to this? I keep it simple (relatively), and stick to short form projects. So instead of needing a ton of space to house multiple sets, I just have one key stage that is interchangeable, and each project we take on is limited in runtime and needs for actual production, so it’s all a perfect match.

A look at some of our latest projects

Since launching, we’ve produced short-form content for Nickelodeon, Navy Federal Credit Union, and even Hasbro. I love the spontaneity of sticking to short form because it keeps us on our toes for crafting techniques and assets that allow for quicker turnarounds.

We’re currently accepting new projects for Q3 and Q4, so feel free to reach out at chad@ultrakindstudios.com
